From the beginning, professionally associated with heat engineering. He gained experience in the Regional Heating Company in Poznan (now Veolia Energy Poznan). He dealt with all issues concerning heat - from design through systems programming, preparation and implementation of investments, technical and technological development, commercial development up to the management of heating systems.

From 1 September 2013 he was appointed Director General, CEO of Veolia Energy Lodz. Previously, he served as CEO of four companies in Dalkia heating group (now Veolia) and member of the board of Dalkia Warsaw SA (now Veolia Energy Warsaw SA) - the largest district heating network operator in Poland.

Marian Jerzy Korczyński, PhD - Lodz University of Technology

Marian Jerzy Korczyński with Lodz University of Technology is since 1973. Graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in 1973 with a Mater Science degree in electrical engineering, PhD EE he gained in 1981. His professional  activities are concentrated on metrology aspects in all forms of automobile related subjects. Currently his interests are concentrated on sustainable transport and electric vehicles  with a special focus on powertrain and battery efficiency and charging infrastructure as a part of smart grid and smart cities in which primary role are playing distributed renewable energy sources and battery energy systems. Author and co-author of 5 patents, 3 books and over 80 articles in national and international journals. He has participated and led several national and international projects including in the fifth framework program of the European Union. Now partner of to HORIZON 2020 – projects under evaluation by EU.

Ewa Kochańska Ph.D. - President of Research and Innovation Centre Pro-Akademia

Ewa Kochańska, Ph.D. graduated from University of Lodz. She holds a Ph.D. degree in economics (specialization in economic cybernetics). She is considered as an expert in the field of technology transfer and cooperation between science and economy, with particular emphasis on protection of the environment and energy. During her professional career, she was an expert in many institutions, e.g.: in the European Commission under EU Framework Programme HORIZON 2020, in the Research Fund for Coal and Steel, in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and in the National Centre for Research and Development due to  the assessment of international research and development projects.
From 4 years she has been the editor-in chief of the scientific magazine Acta Innovations and from 8 years she has been coordinating the work of Cluster Bioenergy for the Region. Since 1996 she has been the President of Research and Innovation Centre Pro-Akademia.

Kurt Vandenberghe - Directorate General for Research and Innovation

Plenary Session part I: “New Energy Union and circular economy” - video transmission

Kurt Vandenberghe comes from Belgium. He studied at John Hopkins University. Since July 2013 he is a Director for Climate Action and Resource Efficiency at the European Commission's DG Research and Innovation. Previously, Kurt Vandenberghe was a deputy head of the cabinet of Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner for Research and Development. He is in charge of coordinating the research area and the EU research framework programme. Kurt joined the European Commission in 1996 as coordinator of the Commission’s Intermodal Transport Task Force and of the Transport Research Programme. He subsequently was coordinator of DG Transport’s relations with the European Parliament, the Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of Regions.


Kurt Vandenberghe will be one of the participants at the Second International Lodzkie of Energy Congress. He will be talking about circular economy, strictly speaking: opportunities, threats and challenges.

Urban Kaiser - Fraunhofer MOEZ

Plenary Session: “Technologies for society”

Urban Kaiser was born on 25th of July 1980 in Germany. He has worked as a research fellow at Fraunhofer MOEZ since 2008 and has held the position of project manager for national and international projects in the Group "Energy and Social Dialogue" since 2010. In this role, he is primarily concerned with the interactions between technical, economic and social developments in European energy markets.
Urban Kaiser studied political sciences and economics at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and Riga (Latvia). In 2008 he received a master’s degree in economics and social sciences. He speaks fluently business English and also basic Russian.
Since 2014 he has held the position of external doctoral candidate at FU Berlin. He is concerned with policy instruments for sustainable energy efficient refurbishment of historic urban districts. He is most interested in the conception and implementation of stakeholder dialogue processes related to sustainable energy strategies.

Witold Stępień - Marshal of the Lodzkie Region

Born on July 20, 1956. In 1980 graduated from the Technical University of Lodz, Electrical Faculty. He is an electronics engineer. Member of Civic Platform since January 2001. In February 2002 became the Secretary of the City of Konstantynow Lodzki. From February 2008 he acted as a member of the Board of the Lodzkie Region. In 2009 he was chosen Deputy Marshal of the Lodzkie Region responsible for transport, entrepreneurship and informatization. From the beginning he has been supervising the Lodz Agglomeration Railway, broadband Internet and regional roads modernization projects.
Appointed Marshal of the Lodzkie Region in December 2010. Operates actively within EU structures. He is a member of the Committee of the Regions and coordinator of the flagship initiative of “Europe 2020” strategy – European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion.
In 2011 he was nominated in the “Man of the Year – Friend of the Railways” contest held by Polish State Railways PKP S.A. and Railway Business Forum. In 2012 he was a recipient of the “Man of the Year – Friend of the Railways” award. In the same year he won the Transport Innovation Award.
Decorations: Gold Cross of Merit, Silver Medal for Long Service, Bronze Medal of Merit for National Defence, Bronze Badge for Merit for Polish Army Soldiers Association.

Francesco Paolo Lamacchia - Zero Energy Buildings First Italian National Network

Panel discussion: Energy-saving buildings and solutions for distributed energy

Francesco Paolo Lamacchia was born in Italy, in province of Bari, on 12th of August 1976. He attained a Master Degree in Civil Engineering cum laude (Technical University of Bari). In 2008 he obtained the Ph.D in Structural, Seismic and Geotechnical Engineering at Politechnic of Milan. He has more than ten years of teaching experience at higher education level in many vocational training private and public centers as well as at the School of Engineering and Architecture in Technical University of Milan (Polytechnic).

Author of scientific publications, in 2011 he has founded the First National Network for Zero Energy Buildings in Italy and in 2014 he has become national President, becoming at the same time national technical coordinator of the multidisciplinary staff. The ZEB Network has achieved a great success worldwide in September 2014 when it has launched the „First International Summer School for NZEB’s Design”, today at its third edition. Starting from 2015 he is also Deputy Vice-President of the Institute for BIM in Italy. Francesco’s competencies and interests are addressed to Zero Energy Buildings or Sustainable Buildings with innovative design (best sustainable development’s solutions for better living's and indoor air quality) towards a low carbon economy and crossed with a new design way in the interoperability standards.

In the last years Francesco Paolo Lamacchia has participated as chairman and speaker to a long list of public workshops, seminars and conferences, in the sustainable energy sphere, some of which also supporting by the European Commission.

He is also a technical expert in EU funding projects, programs and techniques but also to attract foreign loans in the innovative building industry, expert in managing projects, technical inspection, coordination and consultancy for zero emissions built environment. Francesco Paolo Lamacchia will inaugurate first day’s panel session with the lecture "Zero Energy Buildings: solutions for distributed energy ".

 

Carmen Margelí Vila - Cetemmsa Institute

M.Carmen Margelí Vila. Head of International Projects in CETEMMSA (EURECAT) technological centre. Holds a Degree in Journalism, Master's Degree in International Relations and Degree in Business Management. She has more than 12 years of experience in managing European R&D and technology transfer projects from FP5, FP6, FP7 and HORIZON 2020 as well as managing international cooperation projects in different countries. Expert in training and advisory of European funding opportunities for companies and entities. Acts as Jury in the category of Science and Technology in the Innovators of America Prize organised by the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF).

Tomasz Trela - Vice President of the City of Łódź

The first vice-president of the City of Łódź. Graduate of the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Technical University of Łódź. Since 2010 he has been a member of the Łódź City Council, and since 2013 the president of the Councilors of the Political Party “Social and Liberal Democrats”.  As the first vice-president, he is in charge of social care, education, industry and work market, public utilities, sport and recreation.

Wiesława Pabjańczyk, Ph.D - Technical University of Łódź

Summary of the Congress, Innovations in lighting

Dr Engineer, Wiesława Pabjańczyk is a university teacher and researcher at the Institute of Power Engineering of the Technical University of Łódź. She teaches introduction to thermal engineering, luminance measurements, designing interior lighting, research into lighting equipment and systems of quality management. She also conducts classes with students of interior architecture and urban planning.
Dr Pabjańczyk is also an executive member of the Polish Committee on Luminance, and a member of Technical Committee (KT4) on illumiance technology of the Polish Standardization Committee. 
She specializes in the problems of interior luminance, and the luminance of buildings, as well as energy saving and luminance. Besides, she has recently been dealing with implementing renewable sources of energy in road lighting, designing hybrid, street and road lighting with the use of fotovoltaic solar panels and wind turbines.
A author of more than 120 publications and presentations on luminance, supervisor of over 150 B.Eng., and M.A. theses. 
She works on luminance and lighting in a design-sales-investment company NOVA LIGHT LTD. in Łódź, where, together with a team of designers, graduates of the Technical University of Łódź, she implements projects of interior lighting, road lighting and light installations.
Dr Pabjańczyk boasts of the silver SEP medal of Prof. M. Pożarowski for her lifetime achievements in lighting engineering as well as awards for project implementations of lighting and functional installations, including the III Degree Award of the Minister of Civil Engineering for her outstanding, and creative achievements in architecture and construction.

Lucyna Woźniak - Medical University of Lodz

Professor Lucyna Wozniak, vice Rector for Research of the Medical University in Lodz, graduated from the Lodz University of Technology.
Post-doctoral fellowship in Laboratory of Prof. Colin B.Reese, F.R.S., in field of synthesis of biomolecules, especially analogues of nucleic acids (DNA & RNA). Studies on stereoselective synthesis of nonionic analogues of nucleic acids, analysis of interactions of oligonucleoside (3’,5’)-methanephosphonates with other molecules run in Polish Academy of Sciences, Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies in Lodz. Long time research collaboration with biotechnological company, Genta, Lexington, U.S.A, on application of antisense molecules of the third generation as potential antivirus and anticancer drugs (more than 20 patents and patent applications including American, European and National patent pending).
At the Medical University of Lodz, Prof. Wozniak established Dept. of Structural Biology (Medical University of Lodz) with research focused on DNA and interactions with other biomolecules, elaboration of molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases (diabetes, obesity), studies of mechanisms of nucleolitic enzymes. In close collaboration with diabetologists studies focused on evaluation of the mechanism of Gestational Diabetes (GDM) and molecular biomarkers for GDM have been .
Reviewer of several international journals Phosphorus, Journal of Organometallic Chemistry (JACS, JOC, Tetrahedron, Current Medicinal Chemistry). Expert of the EU grants (5-7FP). Graduated from AGH University of Science and Technology, in the fields of Mining, Management and Marketing. He participates in the work of Committee of Mining – Opencast Mining Section, as well as in the Mining Economics Section in the Polish Academy of Sciences. He leads the Council of the Employers’ Association of Producers of Lignite Agreement (PPWB) and he is a member of Tripartite Teams for the branch of lignite and energy. He actively works for energy development which is based on the use of domestic motherlode of lignite.  He is thought to be an efficient manager with many years of experience. In 2008, in the ranking of “Polska Dziennik Łódzki” he was considered as one of the most influential people in the region of Lodz, who positively affect local societies. In 2009 and 2014 he was honored with the title of the Manager of the Year in the Region of Lodz. In 2010 he consolidated 14 business entities and established PGE GiEK.

Tadeusz Skoczkowski - Warsaw University of Technology

Plenary Session: “New Energy Union and circular economy”

Born on 22.11.1953 in Raciborz, Poland. He obtained PHD Degree at  Silesian University of Technology in 1991. From 2001, he holds a title of a Professor.

The main fields of his interest are Sustainable Energy Policy, Energy Effectiveness and Smart Grid. He has been honoured with many significant prizes, as the Award of the Scientific Secretary of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Prize of J.M. Rektor of Technical University of Warsaw of I degree, the IEC Award’1906 and the Smart Grid Leader 2013 Award. In 2009, he obtained an order of Prof. Pożarski of SEP. During the years 1977 - 1991, he was an adjunct of a Department of Electrical Engineering at the Silesian Technical University. From 1991 until 2005, he was a Head of the Department of Fundamental Research in Electrotechnics. From 1995, he is a secretary of Electrotechnical Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Since 2005, he is a chairman of the Department of Rational Use of Energy at the Warsaw University of Technology, the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering. In the years 1991 - 2010 he was working as a President of Polish National Energy Conservation Agency.

He was a member of such organizations as: Board in the European Council for Energy Efficient Economy, Advisory Committee for Intelligent Energy Efficient Economy, and Energy Efficiency Group in the Energy Charter Secretariat. From 2013, he is a member of the Advisory Group on Energy Horyzont’2020 and also of the       Energy             Platform Euro-CASE.  During the years 1994-2009, he was also a secretary of TC 27 Industrial electroheating equipment of International Electrotechnical Commission in Geneva.

Silvio Weeren

Physicist, represented IBM Germany in industry organizations and standardization as expert chairing working groups covering product stewardship, green procurement, energy efficiency and electro mobility since 2000. During his career he led the IBM part of three EU funded projects and has cofounded and chaired the industry organisation www.eMI3.org.

March 2015 he as left IBM after more than 25 years and founded HeartINvest – Invest into Your Heart & with Your Heart.

Jan Grzonkowski - Polish Committee of Lighting, SEP CIE

Summary of the Congress, The idea of the International Year of Light

In the period 1962-1989 he was working as an assistant professor in the Department and then in the Lighting Division of the Warsaw University of Technology, then he was working in the field of fiber optic at the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology. In 1991 he started work as a proxy of technical issues for the Dean of the Faculty of the Electrical Engineering. This position gave him the opportunity to implement many investments, repairs and modernizations – also in the field of lighting.

Thanks to the practice in the industry, first he became a member and then a chairman of several teams which were dealing with light technology: in the Polish Committee on Illumination, in PKN, in the Chamber of Appraisers SEP, in the Office of Research for Quality SEP.  This Office was responsible for creating quality regulations (criteria) and supervising quality of production of lighting equipment in Poland.

He is the author of over 100 articles, papers and chapters of books in the field of lighting, including 9 chapters in the 3 editions of Guidebook “Technika Świetlna”.

He was co-organizer of the next twenty-two National Lighting Conferences and over forty conferences and symposiums organized or co-organized by Polish Committee on Illumination. He was the main organizer of the XXIV International Congress of the Commission on Illumination in 1999 in Warsaw. He was also organizer of series of Lighting Conferences of the Visegrad Group countries LUMEN V4 in 2011-2013 and organizer of the XXII European Conference LUX EUROPA 2013.

Michał Wekiera - Polish Automotive Industry Association

He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. He completed postgraduate studies in „European Union Law” at the Faculty of Law in Warsaw University, as well as postgraduate studies in „Automotive Industry Manager” in Warsaw School of Economics. During the years 2003-2007 he was a Head of the Department of the Inspection at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, while in 2007-2008 he held a position of Head in the Department of National Economy in the Ministry of Finance. From 2008 to the present day he is the Executive Director of the Polish Automotive Industry Association. He is co-author of publications in the Research Bulletin SGH Studies and works of the collage in management and finance entitled „Regulatory Impact Assessment - a case study”. He has extensive experience and knowledge of the approval and registration of vehicles, low carbon transport, alternative fuels and road charging systems.

Sebastian Serwiak - Deputy Director of the National Contact Point

Panel discussion: Funding opportunities for ecological investments

Deputy Director of the National Contact Point for Research Programmes of the EU at the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research Polish, Academy of Sciences. He holds a bachelor degree in law and M.A degree in international affairs from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. For a number of years served at the National Police Service and later as Director of Public Security Department at the Ministry of Interior, responsible, among others, for coordination and implementation of security research project’s outcomes into first responders every day practice. He has a vast and long lasting experience in research and development projects both of national and international origin, including EU framework programmes` projects, which embrace evaluation, execution, supervising and management roles. Co-founder and member of the Minister of Interior`s Research Advisory Board and MOI`s former representative to the National Research and Development Centre.
